Another absolute essential is clean, fresh water. All pets need to have water available to them at all times. A dog's water dish should be filled at least twice a day, especially in hot weather. If your pet spends time outdoors, keep a filled water dish there, too. Smaller animals need water changes less often, but check it daily and change it immediately if any food or other foreign matter has gotten in to it.
